Shahni is the chef-owner of Éphémère Supper Club. He always had a passion for cooking but couldn’t really muster the courage to pursue his dream. However, it was 7 years ago when he finally made the rebellious decision of dropping his nursing degree and moving away from Edmonton to “test drive” cooking for a year or two. It didn’t take long for him to fall deeply in love with cooking.
Shahni attended culinary school and loved every black box competition thrown at him. As he was still a novice, he started staging around the city as he knew internships in the cooking world would greatly enhance his cooking skills. With an observant nature, he started working beside some of the best chefs in the city. By becoming accustomed to various styles of cooking, he was able to absorb different techniques and representation of a product from the very best in the business.
Shahni started his career at C Restaurant then joined the team at Boneta, Sous Chef at Farm2Fork(an underground restaurant). He was very fortunate to work with the Hawksworth team for more than 2.5 years. The invaluable experience helped him learn from the best cooks in the city who are devoted to putting forward only the finest. As he moved up in ranks, gained more experience, and took more responsibilities, his appetite for learning grew more.
With a passion for cooking and a hunger to learn more, Shahni loves to travel and learn about different cultures and the produce native to them. From Backpacking around Europe to Visiting South America, he has savoured different cuisines and cooked with indigenous products specific to a country.
Working in several restaurants all over the city, Shahni noticed that there is a division in service staff and kitchen. In order to get a better understanding of service, he decided to take some time out and work in the service team. This turned out to be a productive decision as he learned more about the needs of the guests. He believes that the restaurant industry is a bunch of small wheels turning in sync and it is important to learn how they all work. Hence, working as a Barista, Server, Bartender and Manager gave him the enhanced knowledge on how one combines the best of everything to create an exceptional experience for the guest.
“If you spend time creating something, you should have the privilege of presenting it forward.”
Learning from various positions and mentors, Shahni created Éphémère Supper Club. His main objective behind it is to create an ideal environment and provide a service where friends and family can gather and enjoy the serenity of the moment while consuming exquisitely prepared and graciously served meals. Shahni cherishes the sight of a relaxed host orchestrating an event and he strives every day for it.
It goes without saying that Shahni can deliver an exclusive luxury experience by incorporating his years of experience and knowledge gained from working in fine dining and underground restaurants.
